Hey everybody, how are you today? I have something exciting and new for you all. I just finished a piece for the Philadelphia Weekly about the legalization of marijuana. If you're from the Philly area, pick up a copy and remark to yourself how cool freelance work is. For those of you not in the Philly area, you can just see it in the gallery.
And now for a brief shout out to all my peeps who went with me to Papa's Palace this weekend. You all are awesome. You know who you are. Respek!

Wow, what a weekend. I was in New York City from Friday to Sunday with my roommate Geoff Glissen hunting for apartments, getting ready for the big move. I think the high point was getting drinks with comic idol Paul Pope, (I can't believe I had drinks with comic idol Paul Pope!)
At any rate, things only got better from there because on Monday, after returning to Baltimore for the last time ever, during a long and dry ceremony wherein I was dressed like a Harry Potter character, I was handed my Bachelors Degree. Huzzah! If you don't believe me, here's a picture.
That's me in the front; special thanks to Kim Herbst for taking the photo. I think Greg Houston put it best when he said to me, "congradulations! I hear you're my competition now!" I sure am, Greg, so watch yourself. Joe Wierenga has been dropped on the professional world like a bomb, and I'm ready to start kicking ass and takeing names, plus I may do a little illustrating too.
If anyone wants to buy me a drink to celebrate this occasion, I will allow it.

The animations all work! The animations all work! At long last, this entire site is up and running! I finally figured out a way around that server snag that kept me from uploading Quicktime movies. Now witness the firepower of this fully operational battle portfolio!
No website is complete without a Star Wars reference.
The compression on some of the Quicktime Movies did some weird things. I don't know why they start flashing weird colours sometimes, but it's kind of cool so I'll let it be. Probably the biggest loss came when I had to compress them down to 12 fps, rather than the 18 fps I usually work in. Sometimes some important stuff happens in those 6 extra frames every second!
Oh well. More stuff soon.

What a great day to be alive. The second annual MICA Illustration / Animation Showcase went down today without a hitch. Thanks to everyone who came out to see some art, hopefully a lot of great business contacts were made.
Tonight marks the end of my last college class. I'm no longer a college student, but I'm not a college graduate until they hand me my diploma on the 14th. For now I'm not really anything; I'm just in this weird state of limbo. I think I deserve some ice cream.
See you all later!
